BOC Mactan fails to meet 2008 target

-

Cebu - The Bureau of Customs Sub-port of Mactan failed to meet its 2008 assigned target of P719,370,000.

It only achieved an actual collection of P584,982,792.51 and incurred a shortfall of P134,387,207.49.

Records released by BOC-Port of Cebu chief of assessment division Carlo Corsiga shows that the sub-port of Mactan also failed to meet its target in the first quarter and in the fourth quarter of last year.

In the first quarter it had an actual collection of P156,541,200.36 against its target collection of P235,940,000 or a deficit of P79,398,799.64. In the fourth quarter, its actual collection continued to plummet wherein they incurred a shortfall of P82,030,183, only earning P102,939,817 against the targeted collection of P184,970,000.

Ernesto Urbano, sub-port of Mactan collector, said the decrease of its income is due to the low volume of importation.

Records, however, show that in the second quarter, the said sub-port was able to collect P194,968,153.15 or P14,478,153.15 higher from its P180,490,000 target collection.

In the third quarter, a surplus of P12,563,622 was obtained by the said sub-port as it has collected P130,533,622 from its target collection of P117,970,00.

The sub-port of Mactan’s collection forms part of the BOC-Collection District VII which comprises the Port of Cebu and the Port of Dumaguete.

Although the sub-port of Mactan incurred a deficit in its revenue collections, the district, in its entirety, still attained a surplus P296,149,463.91 in 2008 from its assigned target of P5 billion as it has collected a total of P5,296,149,463.91. Records also showed that the Port of Cebu was able to collect P4,654,582,663.40 or P388,952,663.40 higher than its target collection of P4,265,630.

The Port of Dumaguete was also able to collect a total of P56,584,008 or P41,584,008 higher than its P15 million target collection. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
