CEBU - In his aim to promote healthy lifestyle among his constituents, Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco is launching a new program dubbed as “Less is More.”
“We are starting a weight loss program for town officials,” Frasco said as he encouraged the town workers including the police and firemen, to join his weight loss campaign.
To show that he is serious in implementing the program, Frasco led the 15 policemen in jogging and doing some stretches and jumping exercises at the oval of Liloan Central School last Monday.
Frasco, however, pointed out that the program is not compulsory and did not force the policemen to jog. Some of those who joined the mayor just did some brisk walking.
“It’s a fact that if a person is overweight, he or she is not as healthy and might be less efficient and less productive at work. On the other hand, if a person exercises regularly, eats right, and is of average weight, he or she is definitely healthier and at work will definitely be more alert, more efficient and more productive,” the young mayor said.
Frasco also asked the cafeteria operator at the municipal hall to scrap fried fatty foods from their menu and to have a salad bar for fresh vegetables.
The neophyte mayor also offered incentives for those who want to participate in the program.
Workers who are interested to join the campaign will be weighed at the start and at the end of the year to know how much weight they have lost, as they will get bonuses per pound lost.
“But, more than just monetary rewards for the employee, the policemen, or the firemen will receive other rewards. The reward of a healthier and longer life and more efficiency and more productive at work,” Frasco said. — Garry B. Lao/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
