Mactan Rock Industries continues to supply water

Cebu - Residents and business worried about a water shortage in Lapu-Lapu City and the town of Cordova can heave a temporary sigh of relief as Mactan Rock Industries Inc. will continue supplying the areas while negotiations for an extension of their contract will continue.

Mactan Rock supplies 5,000 cubic meters of water daily to concessionaries of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) in Mactan Island.

Lito Maderazo, president and chief executive officer of Mactan Rock told The FREEMAN yesterday that they have agreed with the board to continue operating so as not to cause interruption and water shortage problem.

“But we still have to get MCWD official letter on the terms of extension,” Maderazo said.

Joel Mari Yu, one of the members of the MCWD board of directors, said that the terms of contract extension will only be made certain “only until we are able to do a joint venture for the same project.”

Maderazo added that since there is no specific agreement yet as to how many years the extension would be, negotiations between their company and MCWD shall continue.

It maybe recalled that Mactan Rock’s ten-year-contract with MCWD ended last January 6.

MCWD has already drawn up measures to prevent a water shortage in case their talks would Mactan Rock would fail. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
