Carreta barangay captain admits allowing "tigbakay"
Cebu - Carreta barangay captain Eduardo Lauron has admitted that he allowed the holding of an illegal cockfight inside the compound of his house from Christmas until January 4.
But Lauron said he already destroyed the structure that serves as “roydahan” after he learned that some of his neighbors have complained about its existence.
Cebu City acting mayor Michael Rama said he already advised the barangay officials to refrain from holding “tigbakay” in their place. But if it cannot be avoided during special occasions, it should be held in places far from the houses.
Some of Lauron’s neighbors complained about the holding of the “tigbakay,” saying that it would be very awkward for the barangay captain to allow the holding of such illegal activity inside his premises.
The complainants sought the help of the media because the police did not even respond to their request to apprehend those who participated in the illegal cockfight.
“They should respond and enforce the law,” Rama said, referring to the police authorities.
Lauron, who is in his first term, explained that some of his constituents are the ones who requested for the holding of the cockfight.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) city director Patricio Gabuya said Lauron’s actuation of allowing the holding of the illegal gambling activity is not good for him being the “father of his barangay.”
“Dili gyud na appropriate kay tigbakay pa, kahibawo gud ang tanan nga illegal na, dili gyud na angay nga pasiugdahan og kapitan,” Gabuya said.
He said the complainants can file their complaint before the City Council so there will be proper investigation. – Rene U. Borromeo/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
