Korean jailed for drunkenness
Cebu - A 39-year-old Korean national was jailed at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office at around 3 a.m. yesterday for alleged drunkenness and failure to pay taxicab fare.
Bernardo Alsola, a driver of the Holiday Taxi, complained to the Lapu-Lapu Police Office that Hong Young Guk, a temporary resident of barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, failed to pay the fare worth P107.50.
Initial investigation disclosed that Hong of Busan, South Korea boarded the taxi at the Mandaue Reclamation Area. He then asked to be taken to the Mactan Marina Mall, where he would want to eat.
Alsola said the foreigner was asleep during the entire drive. Upon their arrival at the Marina Mall, he then woke up Hong and asked to be paid of the fare. But Hong reportedly got irked, saying he had already paid the amount.
“Nagkalalis gyod mi kay mo-insist man siya nga nakaplete na siya. Nya nakatulog baya siya throughout the drive. Gidala nalang nako siya sa police station para mobayad siya sa plete,” Alsola said.
Hong settled his obligations; however, the authorities decided to put him behind bars for violation of the city ordinance on drunkenness.
“Bisa’g nibayad na ang Koreano, ato siyang gipriso tungod sa iyang pagkahubog,” PO3 Elmer Canilla, the investigator, said. – Ramil V. Ayuman/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
