1 killed, another hurt in New Year stabbing
CEBU - At least two persons, one of whom was killed, were stabbed on New Year’s Day in the towns of Minglanilla and Consolacion.
The first stabbing incident occurred inside the compound of the Central Elementary School in Poblacion, Minglanilla town at around 3 a.m. of Thursday.
The victim was identified as Joel Montecillo, 22, a resident of sitio Tiber of barangay Poblacion, while the suspect was identified as Ciano Larego Jr., alyas “Kalog”, 23, a resident of sitio Riles, barangay Tulay also of the town.
Based on the investigation conducted by the Minglanilla Police Station, the victim and the suspect had a heated argument which resulted in the stabbing.
The victim was hit in his left chest and was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital.
He was later transferred to the South General Hospital at around 4 a.m., but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers of the Minglanilla Police Station are conducting a follow-up operation regarding this incident. The suspect is still on the loose.
In the second incident, a public school teacher was stabbed reportedly by her neighbor while she was on her way home in Pulpogan III, Consolacion town also last Thursday at around 7 p.m.
The victim was identified as Wilma Nabasca, 46, a resident of the said place, while the suspect was identified as Garciano Cabrera, 34.
SPO1 Winston Magdadaro of the Consolacion Police Station, who led the responding team along with barangay tanods, said that while the victim was on her way home, the suspect suddenly appeared from behind and stabbed her in the back for no apparent reason.
The responding team arrested the suspect and recovered from him a 12-inch kitchen knife.
The victim is now out of danger, but is still confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while the suspect is now detained waiting for appropriate charges to be filed against him. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
