Two die in waters of northern Cebu

-

CEBU - Two persons were found dead in the waters of separate northern towns last Saturday.

The first one was found floating in a fish pond adjacent to the sea in barangay Tambongon, San Remigio at past six in the morning Saturday.

He was identified by Tambongon barangay captain Casiano Becari as Ruben Cortez, 49, a resident of the said place.

PO2 Randy Sibay of San Remigio Police said that Cortez was found floating in the fish pond owned by Bello Terana.

Municipal Health Officer Edgar Espinosa has recommended the conduct of an autopsy after seeing a wound on the victim’s left face to determine whether there was foul play.

The autopsy conducted by Dr. Nestor Satur of the PNP Crime Laboratory, however showed that the victim indeed died of drowning.

In the afternoon, the body of 24-year-old Wendell Bonghanoy was found washed in the shores of barangay Molobolo in Tuburan town.

According to SPO1 Carlo Canseco, Bonghanoy, a resident of barangay Dapdap, was with his family and friends having a party in the beach.

He allegedly got drunk and was last seen taking a swim.

He was found late afternoon with several spikes of sea urchins still piercing his body.

A sea urchin, locally known as “tuyom” is member of phylum echinodermata and is armed with poisonous spikes.

Relatives of Bonghanoy refused to have his body undergo an autopsy.  – Ferliza C. Contratista/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
