City okays P.4M aid for Lupon

CEBU – The Cebu City Council recently approved a resolution authored by Councilor Arsenio Pacaña extending the amount of P486,400 as financial aid to the Liga ng Lupong Tagapamayapa.

The aid, Pacaña said, will be used to fund the numerous development workshops of the members of the Lupon in the 80 barangays of the city.

A memorandum of agreement will be signed between the city government, represented by acting mayor Michael Rama, and Dr. Encarnacion Daño, president of the Liga ng mga Lupon.

Highlighted among the projects of Encarnacion is the conduct of a seminar workshop on conflict management which is seen as an essential input to further strengthen the capacity of the Lupons.

The implementation of the project proposal was highly given due consideration by the Cebu City Private Sector Organization Evaluation and Monitoring Board.

The financial aid was included in the items of Supplemental Budget 2 with the ordinance approved in September this year.

Another resolution is needed for the release of the funds.

Under the MOA, the Liga ng mga Lupon is obliged to keep all funding records and will be inspected occasionally by the city government regarding the implementation on whether such is bound within the proposals.

After 60 days from the project’s implementation, the Liga will submit a report to the city government.

The Liga ng mga Lupon in Cebu City has been awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government for contributing to the declogging of cases filed formally in the courts.

The law requires not less than 10 but not more than 20 Lupon members in every barangay. — Ferliza C. Contratista/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
