CEBU - Acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has scheduled a meeting with the leaders of the Muslim communities in Cebu to seek their help in the fight against terrorism.
Rama directed city public information officer Nagiel Banacia to get in touch with the Muslim leaders in Cebu for them to attend the meeting that is scheduled to be held before Christmas.
Some of the Muslims in Cebu said they believe that their leaders are always supportive to the city’s campaign to make the city always peaceful.
“Dili makabalibad ang among mga lider sa hangyo sa mga opisyal sa syudad kay supportive usab kaayo sila sa among kahimtang,” a Muslim vendor told The Freeman.
Mayor on-leave Tomas Osmena has been acknowledged also by the Muslim communities in Cebu as their Sultan that is why the mayor is always very supportive to the Muslim’s needs.
Rama said the Muslims are always helping the city as what they had done during the Asean Summit in 2006.
“Kinahanglang motabang g’yod sila nga ang atong syudad mapabilin nga malinawon. Bantayan nila kinsa ang mga tawo nga mangabot diha sa ilang dapit ilabi na og taga Mindanao,” Rama said.
Rama called for the meeting after two bomb blasts rocked Iligan City the other day leaving four dead and scores wounded.
The police theorized that rogue elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have made true their threat to bomb the city.
The military officials said shortly before the first explosion, a close circuit television at the UniCity caught two people, who were wearing a Muslim scarf, depositing a package wrapped as Christmas gifts at a counter outside the department store. — Rene U. Borromeo/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
