CEBU - Ten concrete houses and two motorboats owned by barangay officials were reportedly destroyed after huge waves crashed in barangay Antipolo, Tuburan last Sunday evening.

The houses that were flushed away by the whirlpool created as an aftermath of the crashing waves were said to be owned by Antipolo barangay captain David Arnaiz, Jr. and barangay councilmen Edmund Maglasang, Zaldy Tiballa, Alwin Payda, Gregorio Barongo, Gomie Nelaguda, Roque Pitaluna, Ben Montellano, Arturo Mahusay, Ruben Eben, including that of David Arnaiz, Sr.

It was also learned that around 200 other houses suffered minor damages, mostly on the flooring.

Arnaiz, Jr. told The FREEMAN that the huge waves hit the stretch from sitio Suba to Antipolo proper, estimated to be two-kilometers long, at past 10 p.m. of Sunday.

The two pump boats, usually left at bay on the seashore, were owned by Barongo and Nelaguda.

Damages were estimated to have reached P400,000. No persons, however, were reported killed or hurt in the incident.

The barangay captain yesterday met with the council members for an emergency meeting to have the affected areas be declared under a state of calamity. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV(THE FREEMAN)
