Construction worker arrested for shotgun

-

CEBU - Police arrested a 27-year-old construction worker late Saturday after he was found in possession of an improvised shotgun while at a benefit dance in barangay Tabunok in Sta. Fe town, Bantayan Island.

PO1 Jumary Villaceran, the arresting officer, said a commotion occurred during the benefit dance when an argument ensued within a group of drunk men.

The suspect, Jubert Gila, who was among those in the group, then pulled out an improvised shotgun locally known as “sumpak”.

Villaceran said he and fellow policeman Mark Anthony Quijano immediately approached the suspect and arrested him.

The people there were said to be lucky that Gila did not immediately pull the trigger and that he did not resist arrest as he would have likely hurt many.

“Wala naman sad siya ni-react sa dihang amo siyang gidakop. Nipatuo ra siya namo,” Villaceran said.

Gila, a resident of barangay Pooc in Sta. Fe town, is now detained at the town police station. Formal charges are set to be filed against him today. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
