Workers demand for bundles of joy

-

CEBU - Workers of Mehitabel Furniture are demanding bundles of joy from the management of the company.

Zosimo Borja, president of Mehitabel Workers Union, said the company gave them these items in the past, thus it has no excuse not to do so this year.

These bundles of joy are usually grocery items worth P600.

“Naghimo mi og signature campaign last week para ipakita sa management nga lig-on mi sa among kawsa pagkuha sa among bundles of joy niining tuiga,” said Borja, who has been working with the company for 18 years now.

All 370 members signed the petition that they passed to Human Resource Development head Alfonso Boa. But Boa said they cannot give the bundles of joy because of the global crisis, Borja told The FREEMAN yesterday.

Aside from the bundles of joy, Borja also said they will fight for their collective bargaining agreement, and for the implementation of the genuine Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Wage Order No. 13 that would add a P9 increase to their daily wage.

But the workers said they were only given a P4 increase in their salary.

The workers said if they will not get their bundles of joy, then the company can just as easily refuse them their other benefits.

As of yesterday afternoon, Borja said the company gave them four kilos of rice each but added that as far as they are concerned, these are not what they asked for.

Five years ago, the workers union and the company also clashed regarding their CBA. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
