Valmoria wants cop who slew relative to "rot in jail"

-

Cebu Provincial Police director Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria said yesterday that he wants the policeman who shot his brother-in-law dead for calling him names to “rot in jail”.

Valmoria said aside from the criminal charges, PO1 Jose Dennis Malazarte, of barangay San Antonio, Cebu City, who is assigned to the CPPO and detailed at the South Bus Terminal, will also face grave misconduct charges and possible dismissal from service.

Malazarte shot his brother-in-law, Bienvenido Alforfon, 36, dead after the latter teased him for allegedly being a coward and gay last Friday along N. Bacalso Ave., barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.

The victim was drinking beer with two of his friends at a store when Malazarte arrived and sat nearby to drink alone. Minutes later, the victim’s friends left and he struck a conversation with the suspect.

Malazarte alleged that Alforfon, already drunk, told him to order jeepney dispatchers in the area to stop their illegal business. Store cashiers Janice Palis and Minerva Pillare said they heard the victim telling the suspect: “Ayaw pag-gara-gara diha kay imo ni’ng lugar.”

They also told policeman that Alforfon replied: “Talawan ka. Bayot ka” against the suspect who got angry and pulled out his gun then shot the victim several times, hitting him in the left side of his chest, neck, and back.

The policeman later surrendered to PO2 Remos Goco of the Mobile Patrol Group and turned over his .38 cal. revolver which still had two live rounds in the barrel.

He later told the media he is not sorry for what he did, but will face up to the consequences of his actions. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
