Land developer bares community projects

-

CEBU - Landco Pacific Corporation, the developer of the 200-hectare high-end subdivision in the hilly lands of Cebu City, has announced that it is now working on community projects in barangay Guadalupe, the site of its subdivision development.

Speaking on behalf of Landco officials, press relations officer Anne Marie Conejero said Landco already completed the relocation from sitio Dakit of 16 families whose houses were flooded during a heavy downpour recently.

Landco also promised to restore the 10 hectares of the Buhisan Watershed by planting it with trees within the next two years as part of their project “Landco Saves Buhisan.”

As partner of the Philippine Business for Social Progress in the Save the Buhisan Watershed, Landco will provide P350,000 to rehabilitate the 10 hectares by planting the area with indigenous tree species until 2010.

Meanwhile, Landco also helped the Buhisan Elementary School by refurbishing its library, providing it with more books that could be used by the students.

Landco is the developer of the 200-hectare property - located 335 meters above sea lever - characterized by contiguous hills with a ridge spanning over three kilometers.

The development of the city’s hilly land, particularly in sitio Banawa in Guadalupe, was blamed for flashfloods that affected the houses in sitio Dakit.

Officials of Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau encouraged the developer of the Monterrazas de Cebu to construct additional gabion dams or dikes to prevent further soil erosion that might cause another flashfloods.

Once fully developed, the areas developed by the Landco will be sold at P10,000 to P15,000 per square-meter. — Rene U. Borromeo/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
