CH assures prompt collection of garbage

Cebu City Hall officials have assured the public of prompt collection of garbage as the volumes of wastes will greatly increase to 450 tons a day during the Christmas season.

“Walay problema na… dugay na mi nga nangandam kay matag Pasko man g’yod nga kanunay’ng modaghan ang mga basura,” Department of Public Services chief Dionesio Gualiza said.

During ordinary days, the DPS personnel collect about 400 tons and delivered them to Inayawan Sanitary Landfill. But during Christmas and Sinulog activities, the volumes of garbage will increase.

Councilor Edwin Jagmoc, chairman of the City Council committee on public services, announced that the city has purchased four additional dump trucks that are expected to be delivered next week.

“Magamit na kaayo kining maong mga bag-ong dump truck nga kakargahan sa paghakut sa mga basura,” Jagmoc said.

Gualiza said the people should also cooperate with the garbage collectors by not throwing their garbage in the streets after his personnel are finished collecting their waste.

“Kun molabay sila og mga basura kinahanglan nga anha sa designated nga lugar, unya kana unta nga hapit na ang oras nga moagi ang garbage truck,” the DPS chief said.

Last Wednesday, the City Council passed a resolution urging the DPS to double its efforts in maintaining cleanliness in the city during the Christmas season. — Rene U. Borromeo/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
