San Fernando couple loses P70T to robbers

CEBU - A couple lost P70,000 cash to two armed men in barangay Balungag, San Fernando the other day.

Joselito and Virginia Cortes of barangay Tubod had sent their daughter to school past 8 a.m. Tuesday and were driving towards barangay Sangi when two men in bonnet flagged their motorcycle in barangay Balungag and subsequently declared a holdup.

PO3 Marjukin Misuari said Virginia tried to escape by running towards a rice field but one of the suspects fired his gun into the air, which scared the couple, and which prompted Joselito to hand over their P70,000.The money was intended to buy cows that the couple would later on sell to a buyer in Cebu City.

The robbers immediately fled towards a cliff and remained at large as of yesterday.

The police are having a hard time identifying the suspects, as the couple could not describe them. There was also no witness of the incident. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
