Multi-city urban poor confab set

-

CEBU - Bayan Muna Partylist Representative Satur Ocampo, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza and Cebu City administrator Francisco Fernandez are set to discuss how the urban poor can cope with the global crisis.

In cooperation with the University of the Visayas, the People’s Globalization Awareness Initiative Network, Panaghugpong sa mga Kabus sa Tagadakbayan (Panaghugpong-Kadamay-Cebu), and the Visayanian Student Publication will hold a forum entitled “Kalibotanong Krisis: Katalagman? Alternatiba sa mga Kabos nga Tagadakbayan sa Pag-atubang sa Krisis” on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the UV main campus audio visual room.

The forum will tackle major issues concerning the urban populace in Metro Cebu. Ocampo, as the main speaker, will speak on “Urban poor alternatives amid global crisis”.

Panaghugpong-Kadamay chairman Ramie Inopiquez said the main concern of the forum will be the socio-economic government policies that need to be changed.

The speakers from the cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City will also present their respective urban poor programs.

There will also be testimonies from an urban poor women’s organization and from Maria Buanghog, Cebu City United Vendors Association president. Representatives from the academe and the Church will also give their reactions.

The public is invited to participate in the forum.
