Two persons were killed in separate road accidents on the national highway of southern Cebu yesterday and last Saturday evening.
First incident happened in barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla last Saturday evening. The victim was identified as Benjie Abastillas Barliso, 19 years old, of sitio Hawahay, barangay Tapul, Talisay City.
PO2 Christopher Castro, desk officer of the Minglanilla Police Station, yesterday said that based on the investigation conducted, Barliso was driving his motorcycle with plate number Y15-977 with his friend, a certain Arnold Abalo, also a resident of the said town.
Barliso had reportedly overtaken a tricycle, but a mini-bus on the opposite lane plying the Carcar-Cebu route, driven by Nelson Yamomo, 44, of barangay Awayan in Carcar, had also reportedly overtaken another vehicle that resulted to the smash-up.
Barliso sustained major injuries, while Abalo suffered from fractures in his legs. Castro said that Barliso was rushed first to the Minglanilla District Hospital. As he was in a critical condition, he was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, but died on the way.
Yamomo was detained after he surrendered to the responding policemen.
Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy was run over by a 10-wheeler truck yesterday dawn in barangay Lutac, Naga.
According to initial investigation, the minor who worked as a truck boy was asked by the driver, Wenceslao Bolado, to check the radiator and oil engine of the vehicle. Bolado is the boy’s brother-in-law.
After that, Bolado who thought that the boy was already onboard the truck drove the vehicle. However, he heard a loud thud which prompted him to put the truck to a halt.
When he did a check, he found the body of the boy ran over by the truck. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV
