Man killed in motorcycle crash

CEBU - This is a lesson for motorists who don’t like wearing helmets.

Early morning yesterday, a man who was riding his motorcycle without wearing a crash helmet died in Banawa, Guadalupe after his two-wheeled vehicle collided with the Chevrolet car driven by a priest.

Traffic investigator Armando Banoc believed that Alexander Dosdos, a former restaurant employee, fell asleep for a few seconds while maneuvering his motorcycle that made him lost control of his vehicle and swerved towards the opposite lane.

During investigation, Banoc said that Rev. Fr. Raul Gallego of the Saint John of Sahagan Parish in Toledo City tried to evade the motorcycle but failed.

The broken rear windshield of the priest’s vehicle made the traffic investigator theorize that after the motorcycle hit the car’s bumper, Dosdos was thrown into the rear portion of the vehicle due to impact.

“Grabe lagi kaayo. Nabali-bali ang kabukogan sa drayber sa motor ug ang ulo daku kaayo’g samad. Ang iyang crash helmet diha ra gibitay sa kilid sa motor,” the traffic investigator said.

The city has an existing city ordinance requiring motorcycle drivers to wear crash helmets.

Fr. Gallego said he was on his way to send off his cousin somewhere in Banawa and while traveling on the four-lane road, he observed that the motorcycle, which was running towards the opposite direction, swerved towards his lane. —Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
