CEBU - A man who went amok last Friday night in barangay Poblacion Oriental, Consolacion town was shot by one of the responding policemen when he tried to resist arrest.
Jacinto Otanez Ambrad, of legal age, a resident of Compostela was injured in the left ankle after he was shot by PO1 Rey Ryan Heyrosa of Consolacion Police Station. Police said that prior the incident, they received a telephone call from a barangay tanod requesting for police assistance regarding a man who was allegedly creating trouble in their place around 11 p.m.
The barangay tanod acted on the complaint of spouses Boy and Jona Lagahit against Ambrad.
The couple alleged that Ambrad went wild while on the rooftop of their house, destroying the GI sheets. Later, he allegedly went down and sought trouble in neighborhood.
When responding policemen arrived, Ambrad reportedly fought back and resisted arrest that prompted PO1 Heyrosa to neutralize him by shooting him on the left ankle.
The police officer claimed he was forced to shoot the suspect to prevent him from attacking them.
Ambrad was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where he is now recuperating while follow up investigation is being conducted for the filing of charges against him. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
