Liloan town mayor moves to cut red tape

-

CEBU - Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco intends to make his town go beyond by adopting online internal transactions as he intends to set up an information and technology office to handle the computerization of vital offices especially the accounting, budget and treasury.

The mayor envisions a paperless, online approval of items in order to cut red tape and for a more efficient service.

“Doing so would also reinforce Liloan’s image as a business-friendly community,” Frasco said, adding that he could closely monitor the town’s fiscal situation by being able to look at daily collections with just a few clicks on the mouse.

With the plan, he said Liloanons could also avail of free wireless Internet connection at the town plaza as part of his advocacy when he stepped into his office.

This step followed the launching months ago of Liloan’s website, which features stories and photos of various activities of the Office of the Mayor and the town.

Meanwhile, the Lataban Elementary School in Liloan was chosen as beneficiary of a school building program by the Visayan Electric Company being one of the top-performing schools in the regional and national achievement tests.

In line with its programs for corporate social responsibility, VECO will pour in P1.5 million for the improvement of a school building in Lataban, one of Liloan’s upland barangays.

Frasco recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the utility company for the project, wherein the municipal government will shell out P300,000 as counterpart.

The existing school building will be transformed into a three-room multi-purpose facility and is expected to be finished this January. It will be equipped with computers and other school materials.

“The project is part of VECO’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its educational upliftment program for poor but deserving schools,” VECO said in press statement.

VECO will also distribute school supplies for the students and hold workshops for its teachers. — Garry B. Lao/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
