Man nabbed with guns, ammo in Bogo City

CEBU - A man was arrested at the Bogo City Wharf yesterday afternoon for allegedly attempting to smuggle high-powered firearms and ammunitions into the province of Masbate.

Jerry Solasco, 30, of Cataingan, Masbate was placed under arrest after seven .45 caliber pistols and 17 magazines, one KG-9 submachine pistol; two KG-9 magazines, a silencer, and 14 live ammunitions of .45 caliber pistol were found in his possession.

The arresting policemen led by SPO4 Jose Medrano apprehended Solasco after receiving reports of a suspicious man about to board a motorboat for Masbate.

The guns and ammunitions, believed manufactured in Danao City, were found inside a bag carried by Solasco.

It was learned from PO3 Allan Dosdos that they have already filed charges against Solasco before the Bogo City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic Act 8294 or the law on illegal possession of firearms.

But since police were not able to get any identification card or document from the suspect, Dosdos said there is the possibility that “Jerry Solasco” is just an alias.

The suspect denied attempting to smuggle guns through the port, although witnesses said he was often seen at the port the past days. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV  (THE FREEMAN)
