Briton charged for gun possession

-

CEBU - A Briton has been charged with Violation of Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 or illegal possession of firearms before the provincial prosecutor’s office yesterday.

Thomas Robert Bailey who lives in barangay Casili, Consolacion town, has been charged for illegal possession of firearms after he was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation through a search warrant issued by judge Ulric Cañete of the Mandaue City Regional Trial Court.

Last Wednesday morning, the operatives went to the house of Bailey in Consolacion armed with a search warrant issued by Cañete.

The caretaker, Lamberto Chua, allowed them in thinking they were from a cable company there to do repairs.

The operatives then showed Chua the warrant.

Upon their search they found in a drawer a .45 cal. pistol and several live and spent rounds.

The NBI personnel said they received information that the Briton had an unlicensed firearm.

Bailey, who is now under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation, denied he owned the said firearm and ammunition found. — Jasmin R. Uy/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
