Check on guns of BINs guarding CH ordered
Cebu City Police director Patrocinio Comendador yesterday ordered his intelligence chief to verify reports that members of the Barangay Intelligence Network stationed as guards of the City Hall are carrying unlicensed firearms.
Because some members of the BIN are issued guns since they fight crime, reports came out that some of them are carrying unlicensed firearms.
So in response to reports on the said irregularity, Comendador directed Chief Insp. Jonathan Abella to warn the BIN members that they are allowed to carry guns only if these are licensed, with the holders having special permits to carry firearms outside of their residence.
Councilor Augustus “Jun” Pe Jr., chairman of the City Council’s committee on peace and order, also expressed his aversion for the keeping of unlicensed firearms by trained BIN members.
A BIN member is set to be awarded Monday, during the flag-raising ceremony at the Cebu City Police Office, for his arrest of an armed suspect. This is to serve as proof that despite being unarmed, BIN members can still be effective in assisting police operations, said Comendador.
“Bisan og walay armas kining maong BIN member, nakatabang gihapon siya sa kapolisan,” Comendador said.
“Aw, kon duna sila’y armas unya lisensyado, nya duna sila’y special permits pagdala og armas gawas sa ilang mga panimalay, walay problema,” Comendador added. – Rene U. Borromeo/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
