In probe vs. 4 teachers: Buot-Taup principal inclusion sought

Cebu City Hall consultant for education, Joy Augustus Young is eyeing the inclusion of the principal of an elementary school in barangay Buot-Taup in the investigation by higher officials of the Department of Education for alleged irregularities.

Young, in an interview with reporters yesterday, said that he will also include the principal of the Emilio Osmeña Integrated School in the investigation initially taken against four staff teachers Rose Cortes, Cristina Pugoy, Mae Ylaya, and Yeda Rosero.

The four are subjects of complaints made by parents of the students of EOIS alleging that they report very late for Monday class and leave very early during Fridays.

Young said that principal, Floreiphine Navarro, may be as equally guilty since she is allegedly not there always at the school where she is directing.

“In many visits and verifications we had, she is not always there, so she should be included,” Young said.

Officials of the Cebu City Schools Division already made their own investigation last October 17, a Friday, which confirmed that the four teachers were indeed not there for the rest of the day.

“It was only for that day, but what about the other Fridays?” Young asked.

He also said he is endorsing further investigation to be made by the DepEd regional office since the city cannot sanction the accused through suspension.

“Kinahanglan sakit gyod ang isilot. May this serve as a lesson to all teachers nga gipangtapol. The principal should be the first to arrive and the last to leave,” Young said.

He added that the suspension should at least be a week or even a month long.

On the part of the city, Young said he already pushed for the suspension of their hardship and cost of living allowances.
