Anti-street hoodlum operations intensified

-

CEBU - Operations of the anti-street hoodlum team of the Cebu City Police Office have been intensified following crime reports involving fraternity and street gangs.

This according to CCPO director Patrocinio Comendador, Jr. during the Talakayan sa Isyung Pulis forum held at the Club Ultima.

Comendador said that there is a noted “insurgence of fraternity and gang-related crimes” immediately after the semestral break.

He also said that they will intensify their monitoring particularly in those areas where certain groups meet for pot session or other illegal activities.

Last Sunday night, 18 high school and college students were arrested by anti-narcotics police following complaints of barangay Mabolo officials that noisy teenagers, gathered in an open area near the police station and some commercial establishments, were into the use of illegal drugs.

The said youngsters called their group the Independent Human Society.

Comendador said that the team will definitely deal with the matter and check if HIS is affiliated with other main fraternities.

In relation to this, Comendador leaves a reminder to parents especially of minors.

“Monitor your children. Make sure nga naa sila sa balay kay if they are out on the streets, there’s the danger there,” he said.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-7 chief, Supt. Ronald Roderos who also attended the TSIP forum emphasized their readiness for All Saints and All Souls Days.

“We are 100 percent ready for the observance of Kalag-kalag,” Roderos said.

This means that they are ready to secure and protect people, visiting their departed loved ones, in the region through police assistance centers inside cemeteries; secure major highways and thoroughfares, bus terminals, seaports and airports, and secure traffic control heading to and from the cemeteries.

For his part, Cebu Provincial Police Office chief, Carmelo Valmoria also laid down his commitment to serve the people and ensure their security.

“The public is the police and the police is the public. We are one and have common interest in securing Cebu province to be a safe place to live in. Rest assured that even in our dreams, we are securing the safety of our place,” Valmoria said. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
