Firm to help in rehab of school buildings

CEBU - The education program of the Cebu provincial government takes a boost with the commitment expressed yesterday by Cemex Philippines to help in the construction, repair and rehabilitation of public schools in the province.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Cemex Philippines president, Sergio Menendez sealed their cooperation yesterday with the signing of a memorandum of agreement at the Capitol Social Hall.

Cemex, the mother company of APO Cement Corporation in Naga City, has committed to donate 24,000 bags of cement to the province for the construction, repair and rehabilitation of public school buildings. The cement donation worth P5.6 million is expected to build 80 two-room school buildings in the different municipalities that will be identified by the provincial government as beneficiaries.

Menendez said that their company is pleased to support the provincial government in its effort to enhance progress and development of Cebu.

“We take pride in supporting the educational initiatives of the province since education is also a core component of our sustainability initiatives. Through this assistance, we are confident that the learning opportunities of students in Cebu will greatly increase,” Menendez said.

Cemex Philippines is the second cement factory in Cebu that has forged cooperation with the provincial government for its infrastructure projects. The Grand Cement Corporation was the first to enter a MOA with Capitol and has, in fact, already completed several infrastructure projects ranging from roads, school buildings and bridges in different parts of the province.
