Demolition of Pasil structure set Monday

-

CEBU - The demolition of the illegal structure constructed by a barangay councilman along the coastal area of barangay Pasil will be conducted by the Squatters Prevention Encroachment Elimination Division on Monday.

Before Mayor Tomas Osmeña left for the United States last week to undergo a one-month medical treatment, he instructed SPEED chief Vicente Mercado to pursue the demolition, which he earlier suspended for 15 days.

“Nia g’yod sa note sa mayor nga ipaguba na g’yod ang illegal structure nga iya ni Konsehal Leon Dakay diha sa barangay Pasil,” Mercado told The FREEMAN.

Acting mayor Michael Rama also said he already talked with Dakay and his family who requested for the extension of the demolition’s suspension. But he said he rejected their request.

“Ako sila nga gipasabot nga kon unsa may mga hiwi atong tul-iron, ug dili na kita makapaabot pa og dugay’ng panahon,” Rama told the City Hall reporters.

The Dakay family has been earning from the illegal structure, where it installed commercial toilets. The FREEMAN learned that many families in Pasil do not have their own toilets.

Osmeña earlier ordered to stop the demolition following the request of Dakay, who said their earnings from these commercial toilets have helped them cover his medical expenses. — Rene U. Borromeo/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
