Cable man injures cop during arrest

CEBU - A man accused of frustrated murder is now facing another charge, this time, for direct assault for injuring a member of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group assigned to arrest him.

P. Supt. Juan Enguerra, Deputy Regional Chief of CIDG, said his men were implementing the warrant of arrest against Rodulfo Padin Gantuanco, 37, of Cansojong Talisay City the other night but Gantuanco reportedly resisted and tried to wrestle it out with SPO1 Willard Selibio.

Enguerra said a complaint for direct assault on a person in authority will be filed against Gantuanco.

In an interview, Gantuanco said he never knew that a complaint for frustrated murder has been filed against him.

He reportedly never received any communication from the prosecutor’s office nor from the court.

Gantuanco, who works as a cable line man, said the CIDG tricked him by pretending to apply for a cable connection, thus, he was very surprised and vigorously reacted to the arrest.

In turned out that Gantuanco was charged for shooting a certain Rose Gaburnay, a member of the City Traffic Operations Management, in June last year in Talisay City. Gaburnay survived the two gunshot wounds.
