Development is going south
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday said the provincial government would be investing in Naga City because development is going “south”.
“We invest in Naga because I foresee the major economic development in the south,” Garcia said.
After her camote-planting in barangay Inayagan, the governor visited the 25-hectare Balili beach resort property that the province bought. It is near the new port being constructed.
Garcia said that once completed, Naga City will be the nautical crossroads of the province and its port will be the first port in the south to receive passenger vessels.
The port will link Naga City to Leyte, Negros and Bohol and parts of Mindanao.
Since the biggest camote plantation is in Naga, Garcia said the province plans to establish a processing plant for camote chips and flour in that city.
Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo, representing the first district where Naga City belongs, said that Naga will benefit if the plans will push through.
Provincial veterinarian Mary Rose Vincoy said the goat dispersal program will also be established in Naga City in the Balili’s property. The province already purchased quality breeder stocks that were distributed to qualified beneficiaries determined by the province.
A total of 24 goats will be dispersed to each town wherein the barangay captain or a qualified barangay official will maintain the breeder bucks.
Vincoy said that Naga City will be the center of the goat dispersal program. — Garry B. Lao/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
