Garcia confirms endorsing Castro
CEBU - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday confirmed that the endorsement for controversial Assistant Cebu City Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro’s to be appointed a judge in the Lapu-Lapu City Municipal Trial Court in Cities came from her.
During a press yesterday, the governor said she endorsed Castro on her appointment but can no longer recall what position.
But Garcia defended her appointment with Castro after being asked by reporters why she endorsed the controversial prosecutor.
“What is in her that you are so hot? Kitang tanan naa man ta’y kagahapon,” Garcia said.
Castro got into several controversies since 2002. She was linked to businessman Zandro Augusto who was married at that time to his wife Cherry.
She faced an administrative complaint for immorality and grave misconduct for allegedly going with Augusto to a motel.
Augusto’s estranged wife Cherry was shot dead in Cebu City by a policeman who killed himself shortly after. Cherry suspected her spouse of having an affair and filed a case against the prosecutor for immorality and grave misconduct.
But Garcia said that her endorsement is based on qualification and records and not on the controversies she got into.
“How do you rate controversies? Is it in accordance with how hotly it has been reported? How about those not controversies that the media did not hear about that is actually happening?” Garcia asked reporters.
Garcia reminded them to go back and read John 8:7 in the Bible or the story about the adulterous woman who caught and brought to the scribes and pharisees for trial.
“Let him who has no sin cast the first stone. Everybody deserves as many chances,” Garcia said. — Garry B. Lao/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
