Octogenarian commits suicide
CEBU – An 89-year-old single mother allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from an avocado tree in sitio Curva, barangay Yati, Liloan Cebu last Friday afternoon.
Police identified the victim as Aurea Mantoja Pepito, single, a resident of the said place.
The victim’s daughter alleged that she was surprised she arrived at their residence at around 5:20 p.m. when she found out that her mother hanged herself using a piece of cloth tied to an avocado tree with the other end tied around the victim’s neck.
Responding officer believed the victim committed suicide because they did not find any sign of foul play in the place of incident.
The municipal health officer offered to conduct a post-mortem examination on the victim but the victim’s daughter refused to have her mother’s body autopsied.
