Saludo: Anti-Red Tape Law enforcement is top priority

-

CEBU - Towards a culture of integrity, service and openness, newly appointed Civil Service Commission Chairman Ricardo Saludo yesterday stressed the commission’s role in curbing bureaucracy in government agencies.

Speaking during the first assembly of the Central Visayas Council of Administrative and Personnel Officers, Saludo emphasized the importance in strictly implementing Republic Act 9485 of the Anti- Red Tape Law of 2007, which he said is one of CSC’s top priorities.

Saludo said RA 9485 is a weapon against inefficiency in public service because it streamlines or eliminates unnecessary steps in the procedures of availing government services.

The law also aims to eliminate fixers who profit from the inefficiency of government. Fixers have since contributed to the slow delivery of government services.

With the law, fixers can be penalized with up to six years of imprisonment and P20,000 to P200,000 fine.

RA 9485 was signed into law in 2007 and was given full effect when CSC issued the Implementing Rules and Regulations on September 5 this year.

The Anti Red Tape Law directs government agencies to modify their systems and procedures within one year after the law takes full effect and further mandates the establishments of measures to streamline front line services of the different government agencies. — Jessica Ann Pareja/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
