Girl killed in road accident in Liloan

-

CEBU - Another minor was killed by a speeding vehicle, the second in just two days in the northern part of Cebu province.

Myrel Acampado Basillote, nine years old, of barangay Cotcot, Liloan town, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after she was hit by a pickup while crossing the National Highway last Sunday afternoon.

According to the report reaching the Cebu Provincial Police Office, the girl did not see the approaching Nissan Frontier Pickup with plate number SHT-349.

The driver, Norman Cabang Maloloy-on, 34, of Sunrise Village, Pardo, Cebu City, surrendered to the police after bringing the girl to the hospital.

He is now detained at the Liloan police station awaiting charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

Last Saturday, a girl taking a bath beside the road was also killed by a truck that lost control in Bogo City.

The driver, who feared for his life after seeing the condition of the girl, fled the scene.

Roadside accidents remain one of the leading causes of death among children other than accidents caused by fire. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
