Koreans in Cebu to learn local laws

CEBU - To prevent Koreans from violating any law, language schools here in Cebu have decided to integrate into their curriculum lessons on local laws of the different cities and municipalities across the province.

Charlie Shin of the United Korean Community Association in Cebu said all schools specializing in teaching English to Koreans will be adopting this method very soon. He admitted that many Koreans, especially the young, are not aware they have already gone beyond what’s allowed by law. 

“Many Koreans who come here really enjoy, most of them are young and they commit mistakes, and they do not know they are already committing mistakes, some Korean to Korean, or Korean to Cebuano,” Shin said.

Shin said the Koreans that come to Cebu, about 3000 every week, are only given simple and basic information about Cebu and the Philippines prior to their departure from Korea, thus, it is about time that they learn more about the province’s laws, especially that many of them reportedly keep on coming back.

Meanwhile, Shin confirmed that the death of a Korean at the Crown Regency Hotel and Suites was purely accidental after authorities could not find any trace of foul play. Park Shung Shu, 28, fell off the hotel the other week.

“We also rule out suicide since he was very happy that time, he was with his girl,” Shin said.

Shu’s body was already cremated and his ashes brought to Korea by his family who came to Cebu. — Ferliza C. Contratista/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
