Construction worker stabs live-in partner

CEBU - A construction worker stabbed his common-law wife who he allegedly caught having sex with another man yesterday midnight in barangay Kalunasan.

The 44-year-old suspect (name withheld by The FREEMAN) was spotted by barangay tanods in the place of incident, still carrying the knife he used in stabbing the victim.

The tanods, led by Ariel Ybareta, turned over the suspect to the Guadalupe Police Station while the 43-year-old victim was taken by residents to the Cebu City Medical Center after getting wounded on her neck.

Investigation conducted by PO3 Teodoro Lumanas revealed that the victim and the suspect were on their way home when an argument ensued between them.

The victim said that the suspect, who she alleged was drunk that time, put up a fight with her because he was jealous with a man-friend of hers.

She further said that the suspect boxed her several times. Discontented, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed her in the neck.

On the other hand, the suspect alleged that he was from work that time when he dropped by at the house of the sister of the victim, obviously to look for her. He then spotted her drinking with a neighbor of her sister, so he joined them.

At around 11 p.m., they decided to go home but stopped by another neighbor to have another drink.

Thirty minutes after, the victim suddenly disappeared, prompting the suspect to look for her again. Not long after, a motorcycle-for-hire driver informed him that through the headlights of the vehicle, he spotted a naked woman with a man on top of her.

Believing that the woman could be his live-in partner, the suspect said he immediately went to check the area and overheard the woman saying “pagbantay kay paingon diri si Wart (his pet name).”

The suspect said he was about to give the man a chase who he alleged to have hurriedly put on his pants, but turned his ire on the victim instead by strangling her.

“Wa nako siya dunggaba, nasamad ra to siya kay naglinayogay man mi nya dako man siya,” he said.

Recovered from the crime scene were the woman’s clothes with bloodstain, including her underwear.

The suspect is now detained at the Guadalupe Police Station awaiting for the appropriate charges to be filed against him. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
