Argao launches fund drive for anniversary celebration

-

Argao Mayor Edcel Galeos called for unity among Argaoanons during yesterday’s start of the fund drive for the celebration of the town’s 400th founding anniversary, saying that the activity only happens once in a lifetime.

“Dako nakong kalipay nga ania ta karon, kitang tanan nagakatapok ug gisanong ninyo ang akong hangyo nga inyo ning suportahan,” Galeos said during the launching of the donation program called the “4 Para sa 400.”

“Naa g’yud pirmi sa akong huna-huna nga gusto kong magkahiusa tang tanan… sa panaghiusa, anaa ang kalamboan,” he added.

Held at the Unity Plaza, Galeos initiated the program together with the 45 barangay captains, students and members of the parish pastoral council.

As the title of the program suggests, a person can donate any amount that begins with four: P4, P40, P400, P4,000, etc.

The program intends to raise funds for the success of the town’s founding anniversary celebration from September 28 to 29.

“Wala ko mag-ingon ug pila ka libo kay gikan sa pinakaubos ug yano nga lungsoranon, at least inig hagbong niya... part ko sa Argao… tagaan nakog sense of belongingness ang matag katawhan... sense of ownership sa atong pinalanggang lungsod sa Argao,” Galeos said.

Boxes will be put up in each of the 45 barangays. Every Friday afternoon, these boxes will be collected to tally the amount gathered for that period.

The mayor assured that the Argaoanons will know where the money would go.

“This is the right time nga magkahiusa ang mga Argaoanons,” he said. — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/LPM
