Vendor, mechanic shot in separate incidents

A woman vendor and a mechanic landed at the Cebu City Medical Center after they were shot in separate incidents in Cebu City last Wednesday.

In the first incident, Jocelyn Reyes, 38, a resident of Villa, barangay T. Padilla, is now in critical condition after she was shot in the forehead by still unidentified assailant around 12:45 p.m.

Initial investigation conducted by the responding policemen revealed that Reyes was walking along an alley on her way to collect payment for the fashion accessories she sold for installment basis when an unknown man suddenly appeared from behind and fired at her, hitting her in the forehead.

One of the residents, Thelma Barona, immediately called for police assistance. Responding elements of the Special Weapons and Tactics failed to catch the assailant.

Meanwhile, two motorcycle-riding men shot a 26-year-old mechanic along Atillo Subdivision, Tres de Abril Street, barangay Punta Princesa around 9:20 p.m.

Police said the victim, Herman Mirafuentes, was hit in the stomach when the assailants fired at him several times while he was about to cross the road. Residents rushed Mirafuentes to CCMC for treatment.

Elements of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office said they are still conducting follow-up investigations into the two incidents.

Police said the shooting of Mirafuentes is the third incident in a week that involves motorcycle-riding assailants.
