Amendment to Security Agency Act eyed

-

The Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency Operators will be pushing for the amendment of Republic Act 5487 or the Security Agency Act to make the law attune with the country’s present security situation.

Gen. Ereno Bacolod, Director of the Civil Security Group, the regulatory body of PADPAO, said it is important that the law be made functional with the country’s present security situation.

“Ang amoang major project is i-revise ang biblia sa security industry, Republic Act 5487. Kadtong mga provisions na dili na angkop karong panahona, amao na ning i-amend. Ang gusto namo nga kining RA 5487 mahimo nang functional sa karong security industry in the Pinas,” Bacolod said.

About 800 participants composed of national directors, regional and chapter presidents, and security agencies are here in Cebu for 4th National Security Convention and Golden Anniversary of PADPAO.

The two-day convention is being held at the Cebu International Convention Center where Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday commended the group for their contribution in making the country safe. Discussions pertaining to national security are being initiated by PADPAO officials, the PNP and speakers from the Pioneer Security and Detective Agency.

Likewise, the convention aims to revisit PADPAO’s partnership with PNP and set goals with the police that have promised to empower PADPAO by developing its members in the area of professionalism.

Atty. Lamberto Manggubat, Executive Vice President of PADPAO-7, said they have already opened a training school for security guards called the PADPAO Academy, which provides training for applicants for security guards and to security guards who wish to renew their licenses.

Trainings will be facilitated by PADPAO officials accredited by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

After its inception in 1958, PADPAO has been the “force multiplier” of the Philippine National Police and is presently the biggest auxiliary force in helping maintain peace and order across the Philippines.
