Red offers aid to Catmon residents hit by landslide

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 has advised the residents to vacate the area because the continuous movement of the earth might cause further damage and accidents.
Durano said no casualties were reported.
Local government units have relocated 29 households mostly in sitio Tipolo in Cabungaan while some opted to stay with their relatives.
From the initial investigation by the MGB-7, there were 48 houses that were either partially or permanently damaged.
The landslide damaged 38 households in barangay Cabungaan, 10 households in barangay Panalipan, agricultural lands within the immediate vicinity including 100 coconut trees, ricefields and a section of a farm to market road in the two barangays.
The area affected as of MGB-7’s hazard assessment on August 15 was approximately 15 to 20 hectares located about two to three kilometers west of the provincial highway.
Durano said residents requested his office to provide construction materials to build their houses once more.
Durano offered any form of assistance from his office as soon as he receives the report on the damages from Mayor Estrella Aribal and the local government.
Either financial assistance, giving of construction materials, and others might be granted to the affected families.
Durano said he wants the complete list of all the affected families and all the requested assistance from the LGU as soon as possible.
MGB-7 said they have not yet given the result of their assessment to the Mayor Aribal, but they said they might be able to give it on Tuesday for reference. — Jessica Ann Pareja/BRP
