PRO tells public to report abusive cops

-

The Police Regional Office-7 yesterday called on the public to report any information about abusive or misbehaving policemen to enable the command to take actions.

The informant may remain anonymous but the information relayed to PRO-7 must have details on the name and unit of the reportedly abusive policeman.

“Even if they (informants) will not identify themselves, just please give the name of the police and the unit, so that it will be easy for us to make actions,” said Supt. Louie Oppus, head of the Regional Operations and Plans Division.

Oppus told members of the PNP Defense Press Corps that his command has been very thankful of the tips it received from several sources that would lead them to the identification and investigation of a police personnel who are, in a way, misbehaving.

Oppus said that PRO-7 director, Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos, had directed him to keep track and take note of news reports, even blind items, about rogue policemen in order for the command to clean up its ranks.

An informant must be brave enough however to identify himself to the top officials who will in turn assure him of safety and protection from possible reprisal from the reported policeman, said Oppus. — Ferliza C. Contratista/RAE
