Banilad flyover to be finished in 20 days

-

Cebu City north district Rep. Raul del Mar yesterday inspected the ongoing construction of the flyover project in barangay Banilad and was assured by the project engineers that the flyover will be completed as scheduled 20 days from now, but it can only be used three weeks after that.

During his inspection of the ongoing construction of the 390- meter flyover at the intersections of Gov. Mariano Cuenco Ave. and A. S. Fortuna St., Del Mar talked with Engr. Christopher Semilla of the WTG Construction and was informed that the work is on schedule.

The construction of the P140-million flyover by WTG Construction is scheduled to be completed not later than September 5, but the vehicles are still not allowed to pass on it yet for three weeks.

“Human sa construction sa flyover maghuwat usa ta og tulo ka semana sir kay kinahanglan pa man nga paughon pag-ayo ang semento usa pa nato paagian sa mga sakyanan,” one of the construction workers said.

Del Mar said the agreement was that the construction of the project will be completed within 10 months or until the end of November, but he asked that it be completed two months earlier.

The contractor even set a much earlier date of completion and that was July 31, but it was not realized because the government failed to immediately purchase the lots beside the flyover for the road expansion.

It was Del Mar who facilitated the release of most of the funds used for the construction of the flyover.

The congressman also thanked the contractor for complying with their commitment that during the construction period they should keep two opposing road lanes beside the flyover project open to vehicles.

Once the flyover is completed and will be passable to vehicles by the end of September, the construction workers will then work for the improvement of the roads beside and under the flyover.

“Dili man mahimong madungan pagtrabaho ang flyover ug ang side roads kay kon dunganon, dili makaagi ang mga sakyanan,” Del Mar explained.

Semilla said the construction of the side roads beside the flyover will be completed not later than one month.  Rene U. Borromeo/BRP
