Carbon policemen caught off-guard by inspection
A surprise inspection was conducted by the National Police Commission-7 at the Carbon Police Station to know how its policemen work and to determine their welfare.
Napolcom-7 regional director Bernardo Calibo who led the inspectors was able to surprise the policemen on duty.
The station’s officer-in-charge, Sr. Insp. Pablo Cabildo, arrived late as he was reportedly doing his morning jog around his area of responsibility when the inspectors arrived.
Calibo immediately noticed the foul smell from the canal of the said market but he said this can be minimized if they plant more trees and shrubs in front of the station.
Aside from the smell Calibo said he will find an architect and a landscaper to improve the appearance of the station saying that the office itself represents the people working in it.
Napolcom, as mandated by law, is obliged to oversee the welfare of the PNP personnel and investigate police scalawags at the same time.
Calibo also said they noticed that a decrease in their illegal drug campaign based on reports and the number of persons arrested in drug related cases, but he said this can be counter-checked by his investigators.
Cabildo admitted that there are still peripheral incidents of snatching in their area of responsibility but added they are now conducting daytime random checkpoints to minimize this, aside from the regular police visibility and foot patrols.
Aside from the facility and the police anti-crime campaigns, the Napolcom also asked for policemen who are now under investigation for various complaints.
Calibo said the Napolcom is offering free legal assistance to policemen who are facing administrative and criminal charges as long as these are related to their performance of official duties.
While Napolcom investigates cases against corrupt policemen they also said they defend policemen who are being charged by people they arrested just to get even with the arresting officers. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
