Elderly couple hacked dead

An elderly couple engaged in the money lending business, were brutally killed in barangay Udlot, Bogo City Wednesday night.

This is the second time this week that a similar incident happened in Cebu province.

Three days ago, a 65-year-old moneylender in Barili town was raped and then stabbed several times resulting to her death.

The fatalities in Bogo City were identified as Rodulfo Frias, 68, and his wife Adelaida, 83, of sitio Mojon, barangay Udlot.

A still unknown assailant stabbed them several times while heavy rain poured.

The weather and the location of the house of the couple, which is far from its neighbors, allowed the killer to leave the area unnoticed.

An 11-year-old grandson survived the carnage and was able to seek help despite having been hacked on the nape.

PO3 Allan Dosdos of the Bogo City Police Station said they are still determining what items and how much money were taken.

It has been reported that a bag containing jewelry and P20,000 cash was declared missing.

The cash came from the sale of a cow earlier this week.

Rodulfo’s body bore several wounds, but the most fatal would have been the one in the head.

Dosdos said the man’s arm was also full of stab wounds signifying that he might have tried to defend himself.

The woman had wounds on her head.

Bogo City Police Chief Tito Satera immediately created a task force for ther quick solution of the crime.

Dosdos said they already have a lead, but he refused to give further information as it might jeopardize their operations.

Gemma Olinares, daughter-in-law of the victims and mother of the survivor, said she was surprised that she heard her son’s knocking almost 11 pm Wednesday.

As it was dark, she did not immediately see the blood on her son’s shirt thinking he was just wet from the rain.  It was only after a while that she saw the wound of the nape.

They immediately brought him to the Verallo District Hospital for immediate medication.

Olinares said her son was about to flee when hit by the weapon used to kill his grandparents.

Olinares said her in laws were known money lenders in the area. She also confirmed the sale of the cow earlier this week.
