DOH-7 pursuing symposia, trainings on family planning

-

Amidst the firm opposition of the Catholic Church, the regional office of the Department of Health is pursuing trainings and symposia in support of the National Family Planning Policy.

DOH-7 is still following the mandate on National Family Planning Policy and remains firm on supporting the reproductive health bill. It commemorated the Family Planning Day last Aug.1.

It would be conducting training on Basic Emergency Obstetrics Care (BEMOC) from August 19 to 29 at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital.

BEMOC, according to the Global Health Council, will provide not only the means to manage emergency complications but also the procedures for early detection and treatment.

Another activity that is going to be conducted by DOH-7 is the Bilateral Tubal Ligation Training, which will be held on August 21 in Argao in coordination with the Philippine Health Organization. The event, however, is held only if enough surgeons are available.

Basically, the DOH is giving guidance and counseling to couples. On responsible parenting, the department respects the couple’s choice on the number of children as well as their ideological maturity and cultural beliefs. — Cressida Paula G. Delmo/LPM
