Two men on a motorcycle yesterday
SPO2 Rogelio Nedamo of the Cebu City Police Homicide Section said one of the victims, 14-year-old John Rey Genosas, was killed on the spot with two gunshot wounds on the head.
The other victim, 17-year-old Roel Batuto who was also shot in the head, was rushed by responding policemen to the
The two teenagers, who were neighbors in sitio Bogo in barangay Quiot Pardo, were on their way home riding a tricycle when they were blocked by a blue motorcycle, without license plate, of the two attackers.
The tricycle driver, 22-year-old Jeffrey Cartilla, told the police that the two men alighted from the motorcycle and simultaneously shot his passengers.
He said the backrider, who wore a black jacket, went to the sidecar’s entrance, where Genosas was seating, and shot the boy who was about to disembark. The boy fell to the ground but the gunman fired one more shot to finish him off.
The motorcycle driver who was wearing a helmet approached and shot Batuto, who was seated at the back of the tricycle driver.
The assailants immediately left the scene on their motorcycle, and headed south.
Cartilla told the police that he failed to see the faces of the gunmen because, at the time of the attack, he closed his eyes and ducked on his tricycle as he waited for his fate. He was however spared by the gunmen whose main targets were the boys.
Policemen of the Scene of the Crime Operation recovered from the scene an empty shell of a .45 caliber bullet and two .32 caliber bullets.
Nedamo and PO3 Buenaventura Ursaiz said they are now checking on the connection of the shooting to another shooting incident in barangay Basak-Pardo yesterday dawn when one person was injured.
Witnesses in the previous shooting have reportedly identified one of the perpetrators as a certain Junrey, who they said was a gang member. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
