2 killed in separate vehicular accidents

-

Two people were killed while another was injured in two separate vehicular accidents yesterday in Cebu City and Carcar City.

Jorge Cabasa, in his 50s, died while being treated at the Cebu City Medical Center from injuries he sustained after the motorcycle he was riding was reportedly hit by a multicab at the South Road Properties past 9 a.m.

Reports Cabasa was driving his motorcycle from Talisay City when he was bumped head-on by the speeding multicab with plate number YBV-657 driven by Joey Lagancia of barangay Lahug. He badly landed at the center island.

Because of its high speed, the multicab failed to stop and hit head-on an Isuzu Crosswind driven by Allan Sabandal, 35, of Villa Leyson in barangay Talamban.

During the incident, the motorcycle was dragged for 21 meters before getting sandwiched between the multicab and the Crosswind.

Luckily, Sabandal who saw the accident between the motorcycle and the multicab managed to slow down when the two vehicles smashed the front portion of his vehicle.

Sabandal, who blamed the lack of early warning devices at the SRP for the incident, was however unhurt but Cabasa and Lagancia were both rushed to the CCMC.

Traffic Enforcer Gemino Jimelon quoted SPO4 Ronilo Ermac, investigator on case, as saying that Cabasa was pronounced dead while Lagancia is still unconscious.

In Carcar City, a 43-year-old man who was attending a fiesta celebration in Barili was run-over by a passenger bus in sitio Awayan, barangay Poblacion 3 yesterday.

Police identified the victim as Fernando Briones Nebria, of Pooc, Talisay City.

Police said Nebria boarded a Ceres Bus 8079 (GWK-701) driven by Roy Sesneros Cabanas from Talisay City. Upon reaching Carcar City, he decided to get off to buy bottled water.

But when he was about to board back the bus, Nebria accidentally slipped and fell towards the rear tires which crushed his head.

Nebria was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead while the driver of the bus proceeded to the city police station to surrender. — Edwin Ian Melecio/LPM
