-

Badian town will be sending its contingent to compete in the “Pasigarbo sa Sugbu – Festival of Festivals 2008” on August 9 in celebration of the 439th founding anniversary of the province of Cebu.

Badian Mayor Carmencita Lumain has decided to send a contingent in next month’s big event at the Cebu International Convention Center after the municipality successfully celebrated the second year of its Banig Festival yesterday.

“Puslan man nga nasugdan na ni, ako na lang g’yod ning tinuoron,” Lumain said referring to the town’s participation in the Pasigarbo, which would feature dances depicting religious celebrations.

Yesterday’s Banig Festival was participated by the town’s 29 barangays grouped into eight contingents.

Tribu Batapoba from barangays Basak, Tungcab, and Poblacion which won first place in yesterday’s competition is set to represent Badian in the Pasigarbo event.

Since contingents are to promote products from their hometowns and cities, Tribu Batapoba is expected to showcase banig products during the grand competition.

Before the winners were awarded, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia expressed how glad she is over the response made by the local government of Badian to her call in pursuit of establishing an identity for the said town.

“Salamat nga inyong gitubag ang akong hangyo nga maghimo kita og festivals nga maoy maghatag kaninyo og unique identity,” the governor said.

As of yesterday, around 30 towns and component cities have already confirmed participation to the Pasigarbo, which will be directed by provincial artistic director Junjet Primor.

The grand winner will go home a million-peso richer. — Garry B. Lao/MEEV
