MCCI gets P2 million assistance from Capitol

The Cebu provincial government is giving at least P2 million to the Mandaue City Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the celebration of the Mandaue City Business Month (MBM) next month.

Girlie Garces, MBM advising board member, said this year’s celebration is more ambitious and relevant as it will encompass the concerns and programs of other provinces through the city’s holding of the Visayas Area Business Conference (VABC).

MBM highlights the strong partnership of business and government in the development of Mandaue City and the province.

Eric Ng Mendoza, MCCI president, said this year’s MBM celebration compliments with the theme “Accelerating Growth.”

The celebration’s opening salvo will be held at the Cebu International Convention Center on August 8.

The MBM organizers have scheduled a list of activities for the whole month of August. Most of these activities will be held at the CICC.

The VABC will have at least 300 delegates from 17 chambers. Topics for discussion include issues on inter-island trade and tourism.

Last June, the MBM organizers met with Garcia to present their planned activities and ask for the province’s support. However, the governor asked them to revise the plan to make sure there will be participation from the province.

Thus, MBM 2008 has activities like Obra-Negosyo Expo (ONE) Cebu, Ako Sugbuanon Photo Tag Contest, Visayas Area Business Conference and Timpla’ng Sugbuanon.

ONE Cebu is a trade show that exhibits the best of Cebu and its neighboring provinces in the Visayas. It will host mini-training sessions and demos designed to enhance entrepreneurial skills and market linkages, especially for the province’s constituents.

Ako Bisdak Photo Tag Contest will sell the tourism sites of Cebu by having Internet surfers tag as many Cebu destinations as they can in the net.

Timpla’ng Sugbuanon is an evening of Cebu flavors and dances. Guests will have a chance taste various delicacies cooked by micro-entrepreneurs from the province. They will also be entertained by provincial dancers with cultural presentations.

Moreover, the Suroy Suroy Sugbo Urban Adventure will be set on August 16 to 17 so delegates from the VABC will have a chance to join. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
