San Nicolas policemen, firemen, get new station

The business sector has formally turned over a new police station and fire sub-station to the city government and the local police yesterday in barangay Sawang Calero.

This building located along Tupas Street in barangay Sawang Calero will become the new home of the San Nicolas Police Station 6 and the Sawang Calero Fire Sub-Station.

Police Station 6 used to be located at the Taboan public market.

The project was funded by the Don Henry Gaisano Foundation with the help of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry in coordination with Police Coordinating and Advisory Council on the “adopt a police station program.”

The ceremony was attended by PCAC chairman Vice Mayor Michael Rama and business sector representatives along with Cebu City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador and Sr. Supt. Alexander Abadinas of the regional police office community relations and Cebu City fire marshal Supt. Esmael Codilla.

“Of course, kita ang nakahuna-huna ana pero ubos usab sa makanunayong pag-abag sa mga negosyante sa siyudad nga mga sakop sa CCCI,” Rama said.

This is the third police station donated by the CCCI to the city government as part of their program in helping the police and the firemen have a decent and presentable workplace.

The first project was the Mabolo police station that also houses the Mabolo fire sub-station and the Waterfront Police Station located near Fort San Pedro.

The city government assured the public that this program will continue since most of the police stations in the city are either attached to the barangay halls or inside public markets which, Rama said, are not suitable areas as location for the police.

These police stations include Carbon police station and Parian police station.

Rama said that good shelter, good service and good housekeeping will boost the morale of the police.

Meanwhile, Comendador, in earlier interview with The Freeman, said the old San Nicolas police station in the Taboan public market will serve as a detention cell.  Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
